Excellent Chesky Records production gives this legandary Brazilian guitarist's
great recording a new dimension. Minimalistic miking and mixing techniques
and no overdubbing or other artificial enhancements make you feel great
master performs right here in your bedroom. Minmalistic arrangements consisting
of just the guitar and percussion emphasize this impression and the fact
that it had been recorded in just 2 days ensures that the sound that you
hear is exactly the one you would here if you listened to the master in
personal. The compilation of songs is great. It begins with Samba de
Orfeo, probably the first worldwide known Bonfá's song, taken
from Orpheo Negro soundtrack, as well as Manhã
de Carnaval, but there are also many other Bonfá's hits, like
marvellous samba Passeio no Rio and À Sombra da Mangueira,
both popularized by Carlos Barbosa-Lima through his famous guitar transcriptions,
few nice Brazillian dance music pieces Dança Índia
and Xangô, beautiful boleros Sambolero played also
by Getz-Bonfa-Jobim-Toledo on masterpiece Jazz
Samba Encore! album and Gentle Rain, then some nice new pieces
make this album a must for all classical guitar lovers as well as all lovers
of cool South American sound.
