Obviously inspired by Stan Getz - Charlie Byrd Jazz Samba, this
album gathered legendary guitarist Luiz Bonfá, singer Maria Toledo
and Tom Jobim with Stan Getz. A historic recording! Although Jazz Samba
was charming, only this album is the real Jazz Samba, as if it was made
as a make-up exam by the same author. Bonfa is clearly better choice for
the job than Charlie Byrd, Maria Toledo sings with clear, precise voice,
Jobim does his charming minimalistic piano solos and Stan Getz is fantastic. The
score is collected among Bonfá's and Jobim's songs. Great version
of Ebony Samba is included, Menina Flor and Saudade Vem Correndo are also
nice and between Jobim's songs Insensatez and O Morro Nao Tem Vez stand
out. Sambalero has slight terrace-like sound but the rest (Tribute to Getz,
Samba de Duas Notas, etc) is also great. One of the essential Bossa Nova
albums!
